Rock Island police arrested a man found naked and covered in cooking spray early Monday in the downtown area.
Officers responded to the call of a naked man at 3:27 a.m. in the 2200 block of 3rd Avenue, where they found him carrying a pair of shorts.
Rock Island Deputy Chief of Police Jeff VenHuizen said the man, Chad William Forber, 41, of Blue Grass, told officers he had taken off his shorts because they were too big and would not stay on.
“He said he had been dropped off somewhere on 11th Street and that he had walked to the area where he was apprehended,” VenHuizen said. “He had lathered himself up in Crisco. He was covered in grease, and was holding the can under his arm.
“He said he was looking for a place to party,” VenHuizen added.
When officers searched the man’s shorts, they seized a quantity of drugs they suspected were methamphetamine.
Rock Island County prosecutors have charged Forber with possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine, a Class 3 Felony under Illinois law that carries a prison sentence of two to five years.
Forber also is charged with resisting a peace officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, both Class A misdemeanors that carry a jail sentence of up to one year.
A charge of lewd exposure was dismissed.
Forber was being held Tuesday night in the Rock Island County Jail on $40,000 bond.

'Merica: Land of Football and Jesus
Yes, both those flags are attached to the front of this car. No, it's not Fourth of July. You figure that one out.
Trash-tastic
The amount of litter here is astounding. Most of these people apparently have never heard of trash cans. This is a shot of the hideous empty lot across the street from my house. Piles of McDonald's cups there on the left, but the entire lot is full of trash. There is one lone tree in the center that has an ugly, angry red sign hanging from it that says, "No Trespassing". Maybe I'll run over there next spring and throw a bunch of flower seeds on the ground so it's not quite so ugly.
My house is on a major street. People will throw entire bags of trash from fast food restaurants, cigarette butts, soda cans and bottles and any other thing on the floor of their cars out the window right into my neatly kept and prettily landscaped yard. At first I tried picking it all up once a week, but it's so bad it fills up my trash can so now I just rake it back into the street.
Both my neighbors are businesses. They also have a hard time keeping up with the litter. One has two large planters with pretty trees growing in them. I have frequently witnessed people walking by and using them as trash cans and ashtrays. It's disgusting, I'm sure they get pee'd in as well.
Filthy, filthy people. I miss California!
So Many Car Lengths Back
In driver's education they talk about staying a car length from the car in front of you for each 10 mph you're going. Here, they really take that advice seriously. I sit through traffic light after traffic light because these morons leave 2 car lengths between themselves and the car in front of them at dead stops. It makes me crazy when I'm in a hurry!
Creeper with a Car Alert!!
Don't take rides from strangers! The text on the back of the car says, "Love is our Weapon" the text on both sides says,"To punish and enslave". YIKES! Internet searches turn up no match for these creepy quotes except a possible nod to Transformer's Evilbot. Creeeeeeeptastic!
Mysterious Resthaven Cemetery
The more I delve into the history of this place the stranger it becomes. There is a prison here, out in the east end of town. It was originally built and functioned as an insane asylum. At some point in the early 1980's it became a prison. There was a cemetery on the property when it was an asylum. When the asylum became a prison the graveyard was moved (and word around Rock Island County Courthouse is that it is now considered a pauper's cemetery). What I gather from the local news and such is that the grave markers were moved, no one is quite certain if the bodies were moved or not. Here is a shot of the entrance to the cemetery. There are very few actual grave markers here, as you can see.
When my boyfriend and I got out of the car to check out the cemetery we heard strange noises. There wasn't a soul in sight but it sounded like voices were coming from the corn field across the street. There was also a mangy looking cat in the bushes near our car who yowled at us the entire time we were there. We tried to check on him, but he didn't appear to be hurt, just angry that we were in his cemetery. There was an eerie feeling permeating the place and so we only stayed about 20 minutes. We read that the borders of the land belonging to the asylum were the nearby hills surrounding the area. We tried to drive the boarders and ended up on a service road behind the prison. We found a small grassy area near what appeared to be a firing range that was chained off with a sign reading "Resthaven". There were no grave markers, I suspect the bodies may still be there while the markers were moved to the place in the photo above, about a mile away. More research confirmed that the bodies were buried just behind the infirmary in the asylum, not sure what part of the prison this correlates too. Interesting, none the less. A great place to visit for Halloween kicks.
